Alaska cruises take you through some of the most breathtaking scenery known to man. With exciting shore-excursions and great views from the ship, these cruises tend to focus less on the ship details and more on the itinerary.
It's no secret that Alaskan cruises take more time to research and plan than other cruises, for a number of reasons, but mainly because Alaska is a large area to cover in one cruise! We've laid out some guidelines to helping you plan for your Alaskan cruise, but please don't hesitate to give us a call should you come into information overload! Planning cruises is our specialty, vacationing is yours.
Alaska Cruise Planning Tips
- Your first decision is whether or not complete your Alaska cruise with a land tour. We highly recommend this to everyone, but especially if you're an adventure seeker.
- Will you be doing your land tour before or after the cruise?
- Do you want to cruise northbound, southbound or glacier? Everyone has their preferences on this, though it seems to sway more towards the southbound itineraries and taking smaller boat tours of the glaciers.
- Choose your ship size wisely. Some cruisers say the smaller ships can get closer to the glaciers passing by, but the larger cruise lines tend to have a more compelling land portion.
- Some excursions you won't want to miss:
- Denali Park - the number one talked about Alaskan shore excursion
- White Pass & Yukon Railway - sit on the left!
- Mendenhall Glacier at Juneau - good for a short or long hike, depending on the trail
- Prince Rupert - a great place to see brown bears
